Beach Day 09

This year we took our first and hopefully not the only beach day at Sandy Point State Park. Its on the Chesapeake Bay and you get a great view of the Bay Bridge. It is called THE bay bridge because its the only way across this rather large body of water unless you want to drive to Delaware or Virgina which typically I don't. The Girl like most kids could hardly wait to let her sun screen dry before sprinting to the water only to learn the sand is hot when the sun shines on and come running back screaming for her shoes. That lesson learned we trekked down to the water. There she met some other children who I later learned informed her there were Jelly fish in the water. I say learned later because she came up shortly after talking to them and asked to play with her beach ball. She then dug in the sand and generally played on the shore for a while. Once the Boy was well situated with The Husband in the shade I went down to the water with her and tried to get her to swim with me.No dice. I couldn't even talk her into getting her toes wet. Finally as the water was wonderful I picked her up and brought her in with me, as soon as her legs touched water she freaked out and demanded I take her back to shore. I was totally baffled my fearless little girl was afraid of the water? I tried to get her to tell me what was wrong and I got some mumbled complaint of the water being muddy. Now I can tell you she is not afraid of mud. So back on the shore I tried to figure out what was really bothering her and that's when she told me about the jelly fish and how you can't see it because the water was so murky. So I assured her that jelly fish were not a problem until august and that as she could see there were lots of other people having fun in the water and they were not getting hurt. But she was unconvinced, until she asked me who the guy in the tall chair was. I told her he was the life guard it was his job to help keep people safe and if they got hurt or started to drown he would come and save them.
"Like if I get stung by a jelly fish?" With that assurance she was more than happy to go swimming with or without me. We had a lot of fun and I am looking forward to going again later this summer.

Thanks for visiting!

Sounds like a lovely time [minus the fearmongering]. I'm glad your entire family could spend a beautiful day together at the beach, and hope that no one got too crispy [I'm thinking of The Husband and Boy's complexions here!]

The Girl's swimsuit is so cute...Target, right? I remember seeing it there and liking it. I love the shorts and shirt top...protects so much more our fair skinned babies!

A day at the beach sounds so nice...glad it was a good time and glad The Girl overcame her fear.

I've never seen the Bay Bridge before. I really am going to have to visit MD soon. Well, would I have had to drive across it to get to Ocean City? I didn't actually do the driving and I probably had my head in a book so I don't remember.

And the answer to your question is a yes!

I remember my first (and only) time swimming at Sandy Point YEARS ago... as in, I was prob a little older than the girl, and I got stung by a jellyfish.

But I am glad you were there early in the summer and could enjoy our wonderful bay.

Fun times!
